Options Counseling Services
Resolving an unintended pregnancy
poses a difficult dilemma for some women. MHCW offers
preliminary counseling sessions with an experienced
counselor. Parenthood, adoption, and abortion are explored,
and each patient is supported in making a well informed
decision.
For women who are undecided, counseling appointments
are scheduled after pregnancy is confirmed, but prior
to scheduling an abortion. A donation of $20 is requested,
but no one is refused this service. Call 612-332-2311
or 1-800-998-6075 to schedule a counseling appointment.
Every woman who is planning to have an abortion at MHCW will review her decision with a member of our staff during her appointment. Women who are undecided are encouraged to take additional time to decide, and may reschedule or cancel their abortion procedure.
Want some help to think through this decision on your
own or with your partner? The National Abortion Federation
has published published a useful guide available at
www.pregnancyoptions.info/.
Women wishing to talk to a pro-choice, non-judgmental
clergymember may contact the All Options Clergy
Counseling Service sponsored by the Minnesota Affiliate
of the Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice 612-870-0974.
Although most women who have abortions do not suffer
negative feelings afterward, it is normal to experience
a wide range of feelings. If you are having difficulty
after an abortion, you may want to explore this website
written edited by Ava Torre-Bueno, a social worker:
http://www.peaceafterabortion.com.
One other website and helpline many women and men find
helpful is www.4exhale.org
or 1-866-4EXHALE. This organization provides a forum
for men and women to talk freely about their experience
with abortion. The phone line is open Monday through
Friday evenings from 5pm to 10pm, and Saturdays and
Sundays from 12pm to 10pm. Spanish speakers are available
on Wednesday evenings and upon request.
