Are you registered to VOTE?
Contact your local county elections office (see your
local government pages in your phone book). They can
send you a registration form. The form needs to be returned
at least 21 days before the election you wish to vote
in.
For same day registration, you just need to bring proof of your current address to the precinct where you live. Proof can be in the form of a valid driver's license or state I.D. with your current address. If your current address is not on your ID, you will need a current major utility bill mailed to your home (gas, electric or water are acceptable, a phone bill is not). Another option is having someone that also lives in your precinct vouch for you that you are a resident of the precinct. For any questions about same day registration, contact the MN Secretary of State's office at 651-296-2803.
You can vote by absentee ballot if you are unable to vote in person on Election Day because you are away from home, ill or disabled, an election judge serving in another precinct, or unable to go to the polling place due to a religious holiday or beliefs. Contact your county auditor or city clerk for an application. You can cast your absentee ballot either in person at a location designated by your county auditor or by mail.
Do you know who represents you?
All Minnesotans are represented by a minimum of 10 different elected officials at various different levels of government - city (town), county, state and federal levels.
First, go to http://pollfinder.sos.state.mn.us to find out what districts you live in. Just enter your address and their precinct finder will tell you what congressional district you live in, what state senate & house district, and what ward, precinct and school district you are in.
Once you have that list of your districts, go to the following to find:
Your U.S. Senators:
www.senate.gov/general/contact_information/senators_cfm.cfm?State=MN
Your U.S. Congressional Representative:
www.house.gov
Minnesota Governor:
www.governor.state.mn.us
Use your local phone book to contact your state, county
and city government offices, or use a web search engine
with the name of your city or county to find more information
online. Check into your local boards as well - school
board, library board, park board, etc.!
